After ten years abroad, J returns home to find his village has undergone cultural and social change. Development has come to the village with the new dam; a highway is being planned and a capitalist economy has engulfed the villagers. The negative effects of development and the unethical, grasping administrators do not escape the worldly J, who sides with the marginalised villagers against unscrupulous development.
